Whole Community Catechesis

Whole Community Catechesis (WCC) is not a program, but a vision of faith formation that is rooted in the documents of Vatican II, the General Directory for Catechesis, and other catechetical documents which call us to be lifelong learners.  It supports faith formation by providing opportunities for everyone of any age to grow and learn in their faith.

Passing on faith to our young and teaching values that reflect our Catholic beliefs is one of the most important responsibilities of parents and the church community.  We believe that faith begins at home and continues to be formed through Whole Community Catechesis.

Whole Community Catechesis begins with the parish community gathering on Sunday to celebrate Mass at 9:30 AM.  After a brief break, children report to their class for instruction while parents attend sessions for the adult community.  Classes conclude at noon.  WCC begins the first Sunday after Labor Day and ends in May.

All children, pre-K through high school, are to be enrolled and attend WCC classes regularly.  To register your child or learn more about WCC at St. Francis of Assisi, contact the Coordinator of Religious Education.

Children's Liturgy of the Word

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is celebrated during the 9:30 a.m. Mass.  Children are with their family through the opening prayer.  Prior to the Liturgy of the Word, the priest calls the children and catechist forward.  The children leave to celebrate the Liturgy of the Word adapted to their age level.  While the gifts are collected, the children rejoin their families to celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist with the parish community.
